NIGHT OF DESTINY IN MOULAY IDRISS
The Night of Destiny, known as Laylat al-Qadr, is one of the holiest nights of Ramadan and in islamic belief it is considered to be the night in which the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the prophet Muhammad. The whole of the month of Ramadan is a period of spiritual reflection and dedication to prayer, fasting, reciting the Quran and giving charity. During the Night of Destiny muslims offer extra prayers and in many muslim countries people pass the entire night out to pray and to celebrate with family members.
This series of pictures, taken in the Night of Destiny 2014, shows the atmosphere in the streets of Moulay Idriss, a town of northern Morocco particularly loved by moroccans. It is considered as a holy city since it was founded by Moulay Idriss who brought Islam to Morocco in 789.
